Head Lice Communication

4/30/25

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students & Staff,

I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. I am writing to share information proactively regarding recent inquiries about the possible spread of lice amongst students at Lake Zurich High School.

It should be noted that we are not aware of multiple connected cases at LZHS at this time. Please note that this information is based upon what students and families report directly to us - and that there may be students who are experiencing symptoms who have not reported this information to school.

Please see below for general information regarding lice, for your reference and information:

  • Lice is most commonly spread among younger children, and from head-to-head contact
  • Lice do not hop or jump, they are spread via direct contact
  • Lice do not carry infectious diseases

Tips for prevention and treatment from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) can be found HERE. Additionally, if you suspect (or know) that your student(s) has head lice, please contact the school Health Office (847) 540-4248 for additional guidance on treatment and next steps.

Thank you for your partnership and understanding as we work to share information with families and to navigate any individualized cases as they arise.

Sincerely,

John L. Walsh
