Walkout Update and Student Expectations

2/16/26

Dear LZHS Parents/Guardians and Students,

As you may be aware, throughout last week area high school students participated in walkouts and protests relating to ICE activities. On Thursday, about 100 LZHS students walked out near the end of the school day.

Many specific questions have arisen - some from LZHS parents/guardians, some with no apparent affiliation to the district. Questions related to specific student behavior and discipline are subject to student privacy laws and will not be discussed except with the individual student involved and their parents/guardians. Activities that are not allowed, such as unexcused absences, unauthorized use of a recording device, physical altercations, bullying and harassment, etc., are outlined in our board policies, including 7:190 - Student Behavior and 7:20 Harassment of Students Prohibited, along with disciplinary measures that may be applied. This is the basis for the Parent-Student Handbook. My expectation is that all students uphold our policies along with our district values - which includes integrity and respect. We will continue to reinforce these expectations as we return to school tomorrow.

Additionally, we continue to uphold our safety and security plans along with our processes supporting student behaviors.

Sincerely,

Dr. John Walsh

Principal
