2026 Summer Reading

Keep Reading this Summer!

As the Literacy Division, we believe that reading is the foundation of learning; it opens doors to academic success and lifelong achievement. Strong reading skills are essential, and there’s no better time to keep them sharp than during summer break!

We’re excited to share a variety of fun and accessible ways for all students to stay connected to reading over the Summer, along with important summer reading expectations for students enrolled in Honors and AP courses. There is no required reading for CP English courses.

We hope every student finds a story that excites them, challenges them, or just offers a great escape. Let’s make this a summer full of reading adventures!

Happy reading!

All Students

While not required, we encourage every student to read at least one book of their choice this summer. Whether you’re diving into fantasy, nonfiction, graphic novels, or thrillers, there are plenty of ways to make reading fun and easy.

Here are some great ways to stay engaged:

Students Enrolled in Honors and AP Courses:

When students choose to enroll in an honors or AP course, it is with the knowledge that the course will be taught at an advanced or accelerated pace.  Therefore, our intent in assigning summer reading is to present a challenging read that allows students to practice effective reading and analysis over the summer in order to prepare for the rigor of assignments during the school year.  For students enrolled in these courses, the summer reading assignment also introduces the expected level of reading for the class and some of the skills associated with the classwork.

If you are enrolled in an honors or AP level English course for the upcoming school year, please check the list below for the course and complete the reading before the start of school. You can expect your teacher to assign work covering the reading the first week of school.
